PRIVACY & DATA PRACTICES
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Seed Reserve Lab may collect when you use seedreservelab.com, how that information is used, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.
Last updated: September 24, 2026
In plain English: Seed Reserve Lab is primarily an editorial and research website. We collect information you choose to send us, limited technical information generated when you use the site, and tracking information associated with analytics or affiliate links. We do not currently process product purchases or payment-card information on Seed Reserve Lab itself.
1. Who we are
Seed Reserve Lab operates seedreservelab.com, an independent research and editorial website focused on seed banks, seed kits, seed storage, seed saving, and practical home-growing guidance.
For privacy questions or requests, please use our Contact page. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, private account credentials, or other sensitive information that is not necessary for us to respond to your request.
2. Information you choose to provide
When you contact Seed Reserve Lab through our website, you may choose to provide information such as:
- Your name.
- Your email address.
- A message subject.
- A page URL relevant to your correction or question.
- The contents of your message and any other information you voluntarily include.
Our Contact page currently uses a Jetpack/WordPress contact form. The services used to deliver and operate that form may process the information you submit so the message can be stored, transmitted, filtered for abuse, and delivered to us.
If Seed Reserve Lab later offers an optional email subscription, newsletter, account feature, survey, or other interactive feature, we may collect the information necessary to provide that feature. If that happens, this policy will apply to the information you choose to submit through it.
3. Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, our hosting, security, performance, analytics, and measurement tools may automatically receive technical information associated with the request. Depending on the service and your settings, this can include:
- Internet Protocol (IP) address or an abbreviated/derived form of it.
- Browser type, operating system, device type, and language settings.
- Referring page or referring website.
- Pages viewed, links clicked, and approximate timestamps.
- Cookie or similar browser identifiers.
- General diagnostic, security, and error information.
We use this information to operate the site, understand which content is useful, diagnose technical problems, detect abuse or security threats, and measure the effectiveness of links and site improvements.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Seed Reserve Lab and the services that support it may use cookies, pixels, local storage, or similar technologies. These technologies may be used for purposes such as:
- Essential and functional operation: keeping site features working, maintaining security, and remembering certain settings.
- Measurement and analytics: understanding traffic, page use, link interactions, and site performance.
- Affiliate attribution: allowing a merchant or affiliate platform to recognize that a visit or qualifying purchase followed a Seed Reserve Lab referral link.
- Third-party content: enabling embedded or externally hosted services when they are used on a page.
You can usually control or delete cookies through your browser. Blocking some cookies may cause certain site or third-party features to work differently. Where a site-level consent control is presented, you can also use that control to manage the categories it supports. For more detail about cookie categories, consent controls, and Google Tag Manager, see our Cookie Policy.
5. Analytics, measurement, and Google Tag Manager
Seed Reserve Lab uses Google Tag Manager as part of its measurement setup. Google Tag Manager is a tag-management system that can load and manage measurement or analytics tags. The specific tags active on the site may change as our measurement setup changes.
When a measurement tag is enabled, the relevant provider may receive browser or interaction data according to that provider’s own terms and privacy practices. For information about Google’s privacy practices, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
6. Affiliate links and merchant websites
Some links on Seed Reserve Lab are affiliate links. These links may contain referral parameters or identifiers that allow a merchant or affiliate platform to attribute a visit or qualifying transaction to Seed Reserve Lab. A merchant or affiliate platform may also use cookies or similar technologies for attribution, fraud prevention, and reporting.
When you leave Seed Reserve Lab and visit a merchant website, that merchant controls its own website and privacy practices. Seed Reserve Lab does not receive your payment-card details simply because you use one of our outbound affiliate links. Purchases, shipping, payment processing, returns, warranties, and merchant accounts are handled by the merchant or its service providers.
For more about how commercial relationships are disclosed, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
7. WordPress, Jetpack, and site infrastructure
Seed Reserve Lab uses WordPress and Jetpack-related services to operate website features. Depending on the feature being used, these services may process technical information, security data, contact-form submissions, or other information necessary to provide the service.
Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and Jetpack, publishes information about its privacy practices at Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
8. Embedded content and external links
Pages on Seed Reserve Lab may link to or, from time to time, embed content from other websites. External services may collect information about your interaction with their content, use cookies, or apply their own tracking technologies as if you had visited their website directly.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites. Review the privacy policy of the external service or merchant before providing it with personal information.
9. How we use information
We may use information described in this policy to:
- Respond to questions, corrections, feedback, and editorial submissions.
- Operate, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the website.
- Prevent spam, abuse, fraudulent activity, and security incidents.
- Understand site traffic and improve navigation, content, and performance.
- Measure outbound links and affiliate referrals.
- Maintain records reasonably necessary for editorial, administrative, security, and legal purposes.
- Comply with applicable law, enforce site policies, or protect rights and safety where reasonably necessary.
10. Legal bases where data-protection law requires them
Where laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply and require a legal basis, the basis will depend on the specific processing. It may include:
- Consent, when you have been asked to make a choice and have given permission.
- Legitimate interests, such as operating, securing, measuring, and improving an editorial website, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Performance of a request or service, when processing is necessary to respond to something you asked us to do.
- Legal obligations, when retention or disclosure is required by applicable law.
11. When information may be shared
We do not publish contact-form submissions as a routine practice, and we do not knowingly sell personal information in exchange for money. Information may be disclosed in limited circumstances, including:
- To service providers that help host, secure, operate, measure, or support the site.
- To analytics, measurement, or affiliate providers when their technologies are used.
- To merchants or affiliate platforms when you choose to follow an outbound merchant link.
- When required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request.
- When reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect the website, enforce applicable policies, or protect the rights or safety of users or others.
- As part of a legitimate business reorganization, transfer, or succession involving the website, subject to applicable privacy obligations.
Some privacy laws use broad definitions of a “sale,” “share,” or targeted-advertising disclosure that can include certain analytics or cross-site identifiers even when no money is paid for the personal information itself. If such a law applies to you, you may contact us to ask about any rights or opt-out mechanisms that apply to the current site configuration.
12. How long we retain information
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including editorial follow-up, customer-service-style correspondence, site security, dispute prevention, legal obligations, and recordkeeping.
Retention periods can differ by data type and service. For example, a correction request may be kept with an editorial record longer than a short-lived technical log. Service providers may also maintain data according to their own retention schedules and legal obligations.
13. International processing
Seed Reserve Lab and its service providers may process information in more than one country. Privacy and data-protection laws can differ from one jurisdiction to another. Where required, providers may rely on contractual or other lawful transfer mechanisms for cross-border processing.
14. Your privacy rights and choices
Depending on where you live and which law applies, you may have rights concerning your personal information. These can include the right to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or information about certain disclosures; the right to object to some processing; the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and, in some jurisdictions, the right to appeal a privacy-request decision.
You can submit a privacy request through our Contact page. Please provide enough information for us to understand the request and, when necessary, verify that the request relates to you. We will respond in accordance with applicable law.
You can also control many browser-based technologies directly through your browser settings, and you can choose not to follow affiliate links or interact with third-party embedded content.
15. Children’s privacy
Seed Reserve Lab is a general-audience gardening and research website and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us so we can review the situation and take appropriate action.
16. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect the website and the information handled through it. No website, network, storage system, or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so please avoid submitting information that is unnecessary or highly sensitive.
17. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our website, service providers, measurement setup, or legal obligations change. When we make a material update, we will revise the “Last updated” date shown at the top of this page. Your continued use of the site after an update is subject to the revised policy and applicable law.
18. Contact Seed Reserve Lab
For privacy questions, data-access requests, correction or deletion requests, or concerns about this policy, please use the Seed Reserve Lab Contact page and identify your message as a privacy request.
